Sometimes

Sometimes I’ll tell you a story

Sometimes I’ll tell you a lie

Sometimes when I wake in the morning

Sometimes I just want to cry

Sometimes when I stop to contemplate

Sometimes I dream of you

Sometimes I dream of someone

Someone else

Sometimes …when I am dreaming

Conceiving of a place we could be

Just imagine us in another world

Think about it maybe, maybe some day

If I think and stop to contemplate

Sometimes I dream of you

Sometimes I dream of someone

Someone else

If you really …were to be free

I know you wouldn’t choose me

But if we could go to that other world

Maybe we could see just what we could see

Now you know that I stop to contemplate

Now you know that I dream, I dream

Now you know that I dream

I dream of you

Sometimes I’ll tell you a story

Sometimes I’ll tell you a lie

Sometimes I’ll tell you a story

Sometimes I’ll tell you a lie

Sometimes I’ll tell you a story

Sometimes I’ll tell you a lie

Our Career
& original song versions

"Our Career" was originally written and recorded in 1983 using the infamous cassette to cassette bouncing technique. There were no sequencers available so it was all played live and overdubbed with each bounce. The main instruments used were a Roland Dr55 drum machine, a Roland Juno 6 polyphonic synth and a Jen SX1000 mono synth. The only "outboard" gear available was a Melos analogue echo. The second incarnation of the song came in 1986 when we started to play live gigs, by that stage we had a better drum machine (Roland TR-707) and a polysynth with memories (Roland Juno 106). The most notable addition at that point was a Roland MC-202 sequencer, which allowed sequenced bass lines (Roland SH2) as well as sequenced lead lines using the inbuilt MC-202 mono synth, all synced with the drum machine. We also had a Casio CZ-101 adding further colour to our sound. Moving to the present version of the song, it was recreated using Logic and various soft synths as well as some of the original equipment. A few "risers" were included to enhance & polish this version and the lyrics were revised, but it is essentially the same song. Have a listen to the various versions ...and see for yourself!
