16 Again

Oh, what would you say if I told you

Could you spare the time to speak to me again

Cos, I know we’ve been friends for much longer

But I think the time has come to open up my heart

For the very first time I’ve felt

Only just got to tell you plainly

How very, very much I truly love you

And I hope I don’t care when you push me sideways

Oh, to be sixteen, sixteen again

Sometimes I wonder should I leave it

But I get the urge to tell, tell, tell

Despite a glimpse of hell

It might be my mind, my mind deluded

D’ ...disaster can be hard, but I’ll double it or quits

For the very first time I’ve felt

Only just got to tell you blindly

How very, very, very much I truly love you

And I hope I don’t care when you push me sideways

Oh, to be sixteen, sixteen again

And as your life goes by

The chance at love it dies

Only just got to tell you madly

How very, very, very, very much I truly love you

And I hope I don’t care when you push me sideways

Oh, to be sixteen, sixteen again

Sixteen, sixteen again

Sixteen, sixteen, sixteen again

Sixteen, sixteen again

Sixteen, sixteen, sixteen again

Sixteen, sixteen again

Sixteen, sixteen, sixteen again

Our Career
& original song versions

"Our Career" was originally written and recorded in 1983 using the infamous cassette to cassette bouncing technique. There were no sequencers available so it was all played live and overdubbed with each bounce. The main instruments used were a Roland Dr55 drum machine, a Roland Juno 6 polyphonic synth and a Jen SX1000 mono synth. The only "outboard" gear available was a Melos analogue echo. The second incarnation of the song came in 1986 when we started to play live gigs, by that stage we had a better drum machine (Roland TR-707) and a polysynth with memories (Roland Juno 106). The most notable addition at that point was a Roland MC-202 sequencer, which allowed sequenced bass lines (Roland SH2) as well as sequenced lead lines using the inbuilt MC-202 mono synth, all synced with the drum machine. We also had a Casio CZ-101 adding further colour to our sound. Moving to the present version of the song, it was recreated using Logic and various soft synths as well as some of the original equipment. A few "risers" were included to enhance & polish this version and the lyrics were revised, but it is essentially the same song. Have a listen to the various versions ...and see for yourself!
